Press media information
For the first time in Spain, a new meeting of instruments,
music, and quality, are Pepe Bao on bass, Guillermo
Cides on the Stick of 10 strings, Roger Blavia on
drums, and Linda Cushma on voices and Stick.
The history of this group began when Bao and Cides
met and decided to join three different drummers
for their musical adventures. They first called
the American drummer Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel;
Paul McCartney; Tears for Fears; King Crimson; Sheryl
Crowe; Suzanne Vega; Hall and Oates; Tony Levin;
Ani Defranco; California Guitar Trio) with which
they made a first tour in Spain. To this series
they joined with drummer Roger Blavia (Barcelona),
and will join soon with Tim Alexander from the group
Primus.
Bao, possibly the most recognized bass player in
Spain through his work with Raimundo Amador, Luz
Casal, Barón Rojo, Manolo García,
Duncan Dhu, Medina Azahara, Maneta de Camioneta
and his own group O'Funk’illo, has invoked
thousands of followers in Spain. A musician with
a spontaneous talent, Bao conquers the audience
with his incredible bass technique.
The Stickista Guillermo Cides is one of few players
of the Chapman Stick, a revolutionary instrument
of 10 strings that combines bass and guitar and
allows the musician to sound like a one man orchestra.
Cides has opened concerts for Emerson, Lake &
Palmer; Rick Wakeman (Yes); Jethro Tull; Fish (Marillion);
Roger Hodgson (Supertramp); John Wetton; and recorded
with Tim Alexander (Primus) and Trey Gunn (K. Crimson)
and has published three solo albums.
Roger Blavia, a drummer recognized by his collaborations
with Serrat, Carles Benavent, Manolo Garcia, the
Fura dels Baus, Maria of the Sea Bonet, Bonell-Benavent-Blavia
Trio, Miguel Poveda, Paul Carrack among others,
developed his music between Flamenco, Brazilian,
Latin, jazz, and other music of the world. The Association
of Jazz Music and Modern Music of Catalunya granted
the Award of Best Percussionist of the Year to Blavia
for its ninth and tenth editions.
Singer and stickista Linda Cushma joins them, an
artist who has known to captivate the attention
of the audience and the press through concerts with
her band Oxygene Eight.
Special musicians of remarkable musical philosophy,
unite in orchestration to the rhythmic grandeur
of drums mixing them with interminable musical games
that cross from the funk-rock to the jazz, from
new age to the Crimsonian atmosphere.
Without a doubt, a luxurious combination.
